I'd like to tell you a story of old,
Something that annually gets told.
It's a story of Jesus who's yet to be born,
Of his mother Mary, who's heart is torn.
An angel had told her what's to come.
She replied "For me to have child cannot be done!"
But Gabriel said "Don't question, just believe
"For through your God, you will conceive."
Mary told Joseph - who's annoyed.
He decides that this engagement is void.
But an angel said through a dream:
"The world this child will redeem."
Joseph then took Mary as wife.
Their marriage was happy, but gossip was rife!
Jesus she bore in Herod's time.
The king of kings from David's line.
Shepherds living in a field near by
Heard a company of angels cry:
"Glory to God in the highest".
An angel said "Go to where the baby lie-est".
Today a saviour has been born for you.
He is Christ, the Lord, in the form of a Jew.
They found the babe and praised him well,
Then around they went with good news to tell.
Three men came from the east with gifts to bring.
They asked Herod "Where is this future king?"
Now Herod, being Herod, was rather upset.
A replacement king he just couldn't let.
He said "Please, report back to me
"When you find out where this king may be."
They followed the star. They found the king.
Gold, incense and myrrh was their offering.
An angel told them "go home another way."
And then sent Joseph to Egypt to stay.
Herod, now mad, gave strict orders:
"Kill the children in Bethlehem and its' borders!"
When Herod was finally dead,
Joseph was back to Israel led.
So Jesus grew up in Galilee.
He preached then died to set us all free.
