This picture was given to me during a time of prayer: There
was a man on top of a hill. The Lord had just clothed him in His armour, and gave
the commandment: "Go out and do battle." "But
Lord," the man replied, "my sword and shield are small, how can I
win?"
"Trust
in Me," He replied, and sent the man on his way. As
the man walked along the valley, to confront the foe, he looked around to his
right and left. All around him were fallen Christians. Some clothed in the Lords
armour, some not. All had been defeated by the foe. The man noticed that the
armour on some seemed stronger than what he had on, and looked more likely to win
in battle. He was afraid. As
the man looked ahead, he saw the foe, and another Christian. The foe put his
sword through the Christian, and that Christian also fell. The man looked around
again, and saw nobody else. All he had was a small sword and dagger, and a
promise "Trust in me." How could he
possibly win against such a powerful foe? He went forward nervous. The
foe struck out at the man, and injured him. The wound quickly healed. Again the
foe struck, again the wound healed. The man struck back with his sword, little
though it was. As the man struck out, the sword grew, but it was deflected. The
foe struck out again. This time the man held out his shield, and the shield
grew. The shield protected the man from the blow. The man struck again, this
time hitting the foe. The foe was angry, and a large battle raged. The more they
fought, the more the sword and shield grew. The
picture was left with the battle raging on, but with a sure hope of victory for
the man. The sword and shield are spiritual, not physical (see Ephesians 6:11-18).
The sword is the Holy Spirit, and the more it was used, the stronger the sword
became. The shield was faith, and only a little faith is required, but it grows.
The foe was Satan. I am sure that many can relate to this man. We need to have courage in God for He is always with us. Sometimes the going is hard, especially when we are in the front line of battle. But we must persevere, for if we don't, we will end up on the wayside. Always trust in God, since though we seem insignificant, and weak, God will supply us with the strength we need to do His will. (c) Jamie Hunter |
